Instructor Tips & Best Practices

BTW Tools are built around one simple idea: clarity creates confidence.
When students can clearly see what success looks like, they perform better and retain skills longer.
Our tools help instructors deliver consistent lessons, reduce confusion, and create repeatable results — every single time.

Understanding How Students Learn

Driving is both a cognitive skill (decision-making and timing) and a psychomotor skill (hand-eye coordination and muscle memory).
Research shows that students retain:

  • 10% of what they read

  • 20% of what they hear

  • 30% of what they see

  • 50% of what they see and hear

  • 75% of what they do

That means students learn best when they can see what’s expected and do it themselves — exactly what BTW Tools make possible.

For Parents & Families

BTW Tools aren’t just for schools — they help parents teach smarter, too.
If you’re practicing with your teen, these simple frameworks can make sessions calmer and more effective:

  • Practice one skill per day (e.g., parking, backing, or turns).

  • Start in low-traffic areas and gradually add distractions.

  • Keep sessions short (20–30 minutes) to maintain focus.

  • End each lesson by discussing what went well.
